5 Tips to Find Your Next Favourite Book

If you are like me, and you don't have a metre long list of books waiting to be read, you may struggle on trying to find the next perfect book to read. You can only read that same book this many times before you crave something new. To fill the void that your previous book created, here are my recommendations on how to find your next favourite book.

1. Look through the shelves of the author of your favourite book.

Maybe it’s the way that the author writes that captivates you. Through this method, you can easily find similar styles of books. I, for one, fell in love with Merissa Meyer's writing style. After picking up "Heartless", my first book from her, I couldn't stop reading her books.

2. Give book recommendation websites a try.

Oh no, but what if your favourite author has only published one book? Don’t worry, there are multiple websites to help you find your next read based on your favourite book. Book recommendation websites such as goodreads, shelfari, libarything, whichbook, and yournextread. Instead of typing away aimlessly on google, these websites can help you find your next favourite read based on what books you already like. I, personally, found my next favourite book on whichbook.

3. Pick up something you normally wouldn’t read

Reading the genre can start to feel stale. Try picking up something you normally wouldn't read. This is a great trick for beginners readers who have not developed a specific taste for certain genres. But who knows, sometimes it can be refreshing to dive deep into another genre, and you might just find your new favourite book there.

4. Start a 'to read' list.

Most likely on your search for your next favourite book, you may come across a few books that may pique your interest. Remember to save the titles into your notes or wherever you prefer. This list comes in handy when you are done reading your soon-to-be favourite book.

5. Explore bookstagram.

You can get your next favourite read, sustainably, at second-hand book shops on Instagram. Try checking out Books beyond Borders, Solitude Search, and, of course, a million books sg. We post weekly book recommendations and sell books more than half off their retail prices. Or if you prefer to see books in-person, drop by our showroom at WCEGA Tower, 21 Bukit Batok Crescent, 06-78, Singapore 658065, but don’t forget to let us know if you are coming! You can book a slot at www.calendly.com/thesustainabilityproject.

I hope that through these tips, you have successfully found the next book to fill the void created by your previous book. Don’t forget to share your latest read with us on Instagram @amillionbooks.sg
